Food often marks occasions that are important to us, it helps us celebrate anything that matters, a birthday, a new job or an anniversary.

Many religious occasions are marked by special meals; Christmas, Thanks giving, Easter, Eid, Passover, a Seder Night Dinner or Hanukkah.

The Progressive Lunch will visit different places of worship and community spaces to sample the food and understand the rituals associated with each place.

We leave the Shepparton Library on a bus and head to the African house to enjoy food from the Burundian/Congolese community and get to understand their culture. From there we travel to the Sikh Gurdwara (temple) where we will enjoy a main meal as it would be served at the Golden Temple in Indian and learn about the Sikh culture. And we finish the tour at the Turkish mosque to enjoy coffee, tea and sweets and a tour of the mosque. We will be back at the library at 3pm.

Different cultures, Different tastes, Different food – one progression to a connected community.

Discover the full richness of ritualized festive eating at the Progressive Lunch as part of the ‘Be Consumed’ Shepparton Festival.
